New product alert! When I walked into Trader Joe’s today and saw that the workers were stocking a new dessert item, I didn’t even think twice about taking it home with me. Introducing Mama's Biscuits: Blueberry Lemon Cream. When a baker brings fruit flavors into a dessert, it usually means that the flavor is immaculate… Let’s take a deep dive into my thoughts on this new Trader Joe’s frozen product.

Let’s Break It Down
I’m not going to lie, I was a bit hesitant picking up a resealable bag of biscuits from the freezer. Would they have that flaky texture of a signature biscuit? Would the blueberries be juicy? Would the lemon flavor be overpowering or subtle? I’m going to give it to you straight: I wasn’t too impressed by the overall flavor of Mama’s Biscuits. The texture and taste didn’t make me jump out of my chair and have me microwaving another. With that being said, I think that we need to take into consideration the convenience of these biscuits above all else.
Recommended Really Means Required
I was dying to pop a biscuit in the microwave as soon as I got home, which is what made this treat a bit anticlimactic. The directions read that, for best results, you should completely thaw the biscuits at room temperature before microwaving. The package also advised to wrap the biscuit in a wet paper towel to ensure that your dessert will be moist. I wrapped my biscuit in the damp paper towel, but didn’t let it thaw all the way. This led me to bite into a slightly dry biscuit. Pro tip: Treat the recommended instructions as required for a much tastier and moist biscuit!

The Results Are In!
After trying the biscuits for a second time using the thawing to room temperature technique, I did enjoy them a bit more, but overall I would leave Mama’s Biscuits at the store. If you are a tough critic when it comes to fluffy biscuits and lemon delights, you will probably feel the same. Overall, I think that there are a lot better picks in the frozen aisle at Trader Joe’s if you’re looking for a yummy snack or mid-morning treat sweet.
